Magdaleno Meza News

Honduras. In recent years, several crimes connected to the drug trafficker who was assassinated in 2019—Magdaleno Meza—have been reported. Meza was also allegedly a business partner of Antonio “Tony” Hernández, the brother of Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández.

Meza, whose real name was Nery Orlando López Sanabria, was apprehended in June 2018 together with his wife and several security guards.

Authorities claim that Meza was allegedly a member of Los Valle, one of the most significant criminal organizations in Honduras, whose leaders are currently being held in the United States on drug trafficking charges.

The name of Meza came up in the New York court case against former “Tony” Hernández, who was sentenced for drug trafficking, possessing weapons, and lying to the authorities.

According to a detective with the Honduran Fiscal Office’s Division of Narcotraffic Warfare, Meza’s car had folders with notes on alleged drug shipments when he was arrested in 2018.

Known as “narco libretas,” their pages detailed shipments that, according to the Fiscale, were received by “Tony” Hernández and then distributed to his associates, including Magdaleno Meza.

Death of Magdaleno Meza

Magdaleno Meza Fénez was shot and beaten by other prisoners of freedom in the country’s east, El Pozo I, in August of 2019.

A video of his death was released, showing the moment when he was speaking with a prison guard before other officers opened the door and let a pack of raccoons finish off his life. The director of that prison facility was present when he passed away.

Following her death, assassinations of people connected to Meza were reported, and they have since evolved into unsolved crimes that are still being investigated today.

Pedro Idelfonso Armas was assassinated in December 2019 on the Panamerican Highway between the cities of Choluteca and San Lonrenzo, Valle.

Magdaleno Meza Fnez’s crime was evidenced by weapons. The director of the prison received at least eight blows to the head.

The victim was driving a grey Toyota pick-up with the plate number HAM 8593. He was placed on administrative leave as authorities looked into the death of Magdaleno Meza.

Additionally, the Magdaleno defence team’s attorney José Luis Pinto was murdered in December 2019.

The incident was committed at La Entrada, Copán, when armed men killed him inside of a cafeteria.

Pinto passed away just a few days after Univision revealed communications in which Magdaleno Fnez expressed his desire to work with American justice on cases involving the narcotics linked to Juan Orlando Hernández.

An ex-Police National (PN) agent was fatally wounded in an attack that took place within a transportation unit in February 2020, and another person was injured.

It was established that he was Pedro Idelfonso Armas’s son. He saw the murder of Magdaleno while serving as the director. As a result, it was decided to investigate if the deaths were connected to the case, although nothing has been clarified as of yet.

The wife of Magdaleno Meza, Erika Julissa Bandi, and their bodyguards were shot at yesterday, June 22.

Bandi was murdered by men wearing DPI (Directorate of Police Investigations) uniforms inside of a pontedera.

After Magdaleno’s death in 2019, Erika requested that she be transferred from the prison out of fear that they might attempt to take her life.

Carlos Chajtur, the legal expert who defended Julissa Bandy, said through HCH that she will be released from prison in 2022 as a result of new changes to the penal code.
