Yemi Mobolade News
Yemi Mobolade, the next mayor of Colorado Springs, stated that he will prioritise involving the community and fostering trust among citizens while tackling concerns with public safety, housing, infrastructure, and what he called economic vibrancy. Less than a week before he becomes office, Mobolade unveiled his 100-day plan on Wednesday. The goals were included in it.
Mobolade reaffirmed his commitment throughout the campaign to regularly interact with citizens, and he promised to host briefings for the community every other week. His office will try to offer information in Spanish as well.
The public’s involvement and openness were major themes of Mobolade’s campaign. He said in an interview with KRCC conducted prior to the runoff election that the departing mayor John Suthers had neglected that region.
Regarding public safety, Mobolade pledged to look for answers to the city’s persistent problems with hiring and keeping police officers, including by creating what he dubbed a public safety summit to address the problem. Who would participate in the summit and what shape it may take are unknown.
Additionally, he wants to collaborate with city council to put a question on the ballot that would ask voters to spend TABOR monies to build a new police training facility.
Mobolade proposed 3D-printed homes as a solution to the city’s shortage of affordable housing during the election. He stated that he will investigate the viability of the plan in the coming days. Additionally, he will hire a chief housing officer to promote public-private collaborations in housing, advocacy, and research as well as look for fresh approaches to the homelessness problem.
Other goals include keeping Space Command in Colorado Springs and meeting with presidents of other colleges and universities to discuss career-training initiatives.
Abbey Mobolade, who will start a “Mental Health COS” campaign, is also part of the proposal.
